Hey guys! I just reworked the home page a little to put the information in order for the presentation today. I used the outline that you made Michelle, thanks! And Danielle I put your information from your post into the home page outline.
I put headings for the Low cost options and SmartBoard technologies into the format but since I didn't have what you would talk about under those headings I left them blank for now. So you can either insert your own bullets, or just speak from your own notes. :) I hope this all makes sense.
Jackie
PS- The handout looks great! I think we will be all set. I am going to try and get there a little early today in case we need to rework anything on the wiki etc. Thanks again!

Here are the points i am going to make about the blog and then QA. I would like to try to show a 2:20 video of the QA legend. I am going to time myself to see if I can fit it in...i am not sure. I will post it on here and the wiki anyway in case i can't show it and the people from our class want to see it. ANYWAY...here are my points...
BLOG
I am going to show how we used it to communicate about the project
Show that it is free and easy to use (to embed videos and pictures)
Great way to get your students to read outside of the classroom
Explain how I have used a blog in my class
QA
Very safe and protected online virtual environment
promotes learning and growth
promotes collaborative efforts (kids from all over the world can work together!)
allows for the use of online media
provides teachers with great resources, like lesson plans
there are quests for all subect areas (that deal with real life problems)
Each quest requires a written response, which is sent to the teacher for review
promotes reading and writing growth for students without them even realizing it!
*I also have the intro/legend video that i want to show in the beginning if i have time. I am going to practice it with the video to see if i have time, if not i will scratch it.

Timeline
The timeline looks great! I am working on finalizing the handout. How many should I copy? 20? I never really payed attention to how many people are in the class. Like I was telling you guys, I have done some "freeze frames" of QA and put it in a PowerPoint format. Also, I created the poll. Hopefully, it will work ok! Is there anything you would like me to put on the hand out, while I am making the finishing touches. I will post it tonight so you all can look at it. If there is something you want me to add/change, I will be home from 12-4 tomorrow and can work on it then!
QUestion
I have been trying to sign on to the wiki, but it keeps saying that wetpaint has blocked the site.
Timeline/Script
Hey! I posted the timeline/script for the presentation as an attachment on the wiki. It is at the bottom of the main page of the site. Look over it and let me know what, if anything, I should change.
Hope you are all having a great Sunday!

Please post your presentation bullets on the home page of the wiki :)
Hey guys,
I posted the opening video and my portion of the presentation on the home page of the wiki. I think that will be a very organized way to present the information to the class. If you would like I can post it on the wiki myself if you just send it to me. Although, I cannot remember right now the order that we decided to present in....anyone? Bueller???

Opening video...and other Kurzweil related info :)
Hey guys,
Wow, your posts look amazing! It is really awesome to see what technology can do (and so easily!)
Here is the link to the opening activity, so that we can post it on the wiki. The clip is only 1:17
The following are the points that I am going to make during my presentation about Kurzweil. The link following is a print screen page from Kurzweil so that I can show the class what the program looks like. Can we put that link of the wiki? Also, where should we have our notes for the presentation...on the blog or I assume the wiki would make more sense? yes?
Kurzweil:
-Read any text while highlighting
-access to reading the internet
-both visual and auditory
-multisensory: sound, syllable, word, phrase, or sentence level
-control SPEED and VOICE
-translate to other languages
-Dictionary/thesaurus feature
-web capabilities
-outline extraction
-outline to writing a paper
-text, voice, and sticky notes in the text
-Aids self-correction (read back feature)
-online books
-students can work independently
-Terra Nova test

Wordle
Blog Design...and some rambling...
Hi guys! I was thinking that (over the next few days) I would spice up the blog a little...maybe add some images or something. Feel free to ad/subtract anything you want. Also, let me know that items that you want me to put on the handout. You know, I was thinking that we could somehow incorporate how digital media (i.e. Twitter/Facebook) has made communication with celebrities so much easier! For example, kids who dream of being an astronaut can communicate with astronauts actually ON the International Space Station. Or in a Literature class, kids can Skype with an author. It is so insane what technology can do! I have had my kids use EarthKam. It is a free program that allows students to have access to a camera on the International Space Station. Kids can request that camera to take pictures of the Earth (as seen from the ISS). We took pictures of volcanoes and some other images. It was so cool for the kids to see what it looked like from above. We have also been trying to collaborate with kids from other parts of the world. Without the use of technology, we would not be able to make it happen! It is just amazing when you think about.
Ok, enough for now! Haha, see you all later!
D
P.S. Has anyone used Wordle? I am going to do one using this blog entry and show you. It's pretty cool!

School Technology Leadership: An Empirical Investigation of Prevalence and Effect
The general question addressed is what technology leadership attributes make what kind of difference in the success of various technology-related programs. First, this article has integrated the prescriptive literature on technology leadership with the National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators (NETS-A) and then has operationalized technology leadership in terms of NETS-A. Data from the 1998 Teaching, Learning, and Computing nationwide survey of more than 800 schools were used to examine technology leadership characteristics and their effect on indicators of technology outcomes. The findings confirm that although technology infrastructure is important, technology leadership is even more necessary for effective utilization of technology in schooling.

Using Technology to Support Expository Reading and Writing in Science Classes
José A. Montelongo and Roberta J. Herter California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA
Abstract: Students struggle with the transition from learning to read narrative text in the early grades to reading expository text in the science classroom in the upper grades as they begin reading and writing to gain information. Science teachers can adapt their teaching materials to develop students’ reading comprehension and recall by writing summaries of scientific text. Using technology, teachers can scaffold text comprehension and improve students’ reading and writing skills. Technology encourages improved comprehension of reading and more elaborate writing in the science classroom by motivating students to act on their curiosity, access resources, and embellish their work.
The importance of elementary school students’ social chat online: Reconceptualising the curriculum
Damian Maher, University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), P.O. Box 222, Lindfield NSW 2070, Australia
Received 11 February 2009; revised 10 March 2009; accepted 17 March 2009. Available online 16 April 2009.
Abstract The Internet is increasingly being used as a tool for communicating and learning in primary schools across many developed and developing countries. The place of social chat as part of online interactions has as yet not been fully recognised as an important component of learning.
In this paper, the interactions of students in a Sydney primary school are examined focusing on the role that social chat plays as part of the online learning process. Here it is found that social chat allows for the development of related skills and knowledge and is an important precursor to more formal learning opportunities and as such, should be considered as an important part of the learning process. Such a consideration has implications for the way the curriculum is designed, implemented and assessed.

Posting videos on thw Wiki
Hey guys I was thinking that we could choose whatever videos we wanted to use during our presentation and post them in the videos section on the wiki page (which by the way looks great)
Kurzweil videos and gereral technology videos
Hey Guys here are some youtube videos that we might considering using some of for the presentation. The first set have to do with the Kurzweil reading program (I especially liked the first two). The rest are just technology in general. Let me know what you think!

Facebook for the classroom
Do any of you remember/know the website where you can create fake facebook type pages? I was thinking that was definitely something we should put on the Tech Notes handout. It can be used in so many ways!
Project
Hi Guys!
Thanks for posting those videos, I have looked at some of them so far!
What do you think we should bring to class tomorrow? I will bring some info that I have found as well as a bunch of the stuff that I have gotten from Discovery Education workshops. I will try to remember to bring my laptop. Do you think we will be able to connect to the wifi? Probably.
Anyway, I was also thinking...there is a TON that you can do with Google Earth. Should we include that? Maybe, if anything, we can just mention it. But, you can do some cool things, like fly into a picture.
OK, see you al later!

Hey gals and guy :-)If you didn't already get it here is the info about the wiki I created...
the url is

We can all edit the site. Feel free to place any information there as well as here. I figure these two sites can both be examples of ways technology can be used.
Also, here are a couple of interesting links to videos I found on youtube

video
Hi guys!
Here is the video that I was telling you about...the one that the tech teacher at my school showed us during a PD day. The kids look kind of depressed in the video, but I guess that's the point. Anyway, I am not sure if we want to use it, but I figured I would post it on here in case we decide to.
